A Sunderland councillor and anti-sewage campaigner is calling on Northumbrian Water to be overhauled following an overdue apology for sewage dumping on Seaburn and Whitburn beaches in Sunderland.
Responding to the publication of the TaxPayers' Alliance's Town Hall Rich List 2023 (which found that Sunderland Council had the second highest earning council employee in the country receiving a package worth £573,550 and a second employee making the top 20 list with receiving nearly £260,000), Leader of the opposition Liberal Democrats on Sunderland Council Niall Hodson said:
Local councillors have welcomed new government funding which could see an upgrade to the Chester Road / Springwell Road / Holborn Road junction in Sunderland.
Commenting on the announcement of plans by production company Fulwell 73 for a major film and television studios development on the banks of the Wear around the Northern Spire bridge, local Lib Dem councillor for Pallion Martin Haswell said:
