Commenting on Barnes councillor Helen Greener leaving the Conservative Group on Sunderland City Council to sit as an independent, Lib Dem leader Niall Hodson said:
"With their party tanking in the polls nationally and councillors deserting them like rats fleeing a sinking ship, it is now clear that the Liberal Democrats are the only viable alternative to decades of Labour complacency and neglect running Sunderland Council."
